LMS Class 4F Locomotive Kettering Steam Shed Plate
A Very Warm Welcome to the K&DMRS

Learn about our activities and maybe it will encourage you to visit us soon!

Thinking of Joining Us?

To some people, model railways are just "grown-ups playing with trains". To devotees of the hobby, like the members of the K&DMRS, it is a way of recreating real railway operations in miniature and bringing the glory days of steam-hauled travel back to life as well as the modern era railways and foreign railways.

K&DMRS cordially invites you to 'try before you buy' by offering three free sessions as our guests, giving you time to determine whether club modelling is a preferred choice.

Simply contact us by our contact form and we will arrange dates with you to visit a club activity night.

We will organise a member to meet and greet you and take responsibiliy to introduce you to our activities, projects and our current members.

Where and When?

We meet every Wednesday evening from 7:30 until 9:30 at Thorpe Malsor Village Hall, Church Way, Thorpe Malsor, NN14 1JS, (opposite Rye Hill House.)

What Do We Do?

Like many clubs around the UK, we are a small vibrant group of people whose ages range from the 16(!) to, well, lets say pensionable!

One of our members was asked by his daughter, "What do you do at your model railway club?" He responded, "Well, we plan and make layouts, chat about model railways and drink tea!" His daughter perhaps tongue-in-cheek, " A bit like the Womens Instutitute but for men!"

So, if you like drinking tea and have an interest in model railways, come along and see what we do. We are a friendly club whose members range from complete beginners to seasoned modellers.

We create railways in miniature, by helping one another to learn new skills to research the prototype, build base boards, track lay and wiring, landscaping, building buildings, signalling and operating the models.

We run an annual exhibition on the second Saturday of each September, where we display our club layouts, members layouts and invited guest layouts together with a variety of specialises model railway trade stands. Some exhibition managers are kind enough to invite our layouts to their exhibitions where we present and operate our models for the entertainment of the general public.

Modelling Resources

K&DMRS has storage space for layout baseboards as well as modelling materials and their ancilliary tools.

We are well equipped to engage members in research for model projects not just as for the society evenings but for your own home layout and modelling projects.

There is access to past and present national monthly model railway magazines. This is supplemented by a range of modelling 'know-how' books and journals.

Our Members

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds with a wide range of skills and modelling passions. The strength of the club is a willingness to share knowledge and no question is deemed 'too simple'. We are all on our own learning curve and understand that we were all novices at one time!

Value for Money

K&DMRS is very stable financially and as a result offer good value for money.

Our annual subscription is 25 per annum, payable in January and this is normally pro-rata for your first year.

We have a weekly charge of 1 to cover refreshments..

In essence, subscriptions cover the costs of leasing the Village Hall and its facilities, whilst the the profit from the Annual Exhibition covers the modelling budget.
